Young Chef Young Waiter deadline extended to 11 July

The entry date for this year’s Young Chef Young Waiter competition has been extended to Monday 11 July.
“Several potential entrants have asked for more time to complete the entry form, so we’ve decided to extend the submission deadline date,” says Philippa Brady, the competition’s organiser.
“But that will have to be the cut-off date, so I’m appealing to everyone to get their entries in quickly,” she says.
Organised by the British Hospitality Association and The Restaurant Association, Young Chef Young Waiter is the premier competition for aspiring young talent. This deadline extension provides the opportunity for even more young professional waiters and chefs to enter the competition and the chance to gain nationwide recognition.
The awards scheme provides opportunities to challenge and develop skills alongside some of the country’s top chefs and front of house experts.
The big talking point about this year’s competition is that it has three new skill categories for both chefs and waiters, significantly increasing the chances of winning an award.
The new waiter awards are Best Barista, Best wine knowledge, and Best cheese knowledge.
The new chef awards are Best original dish, Best dessert and Best kitchen craft.
The northern chef heats will be held at Darlington College on Wednesday, 7 September 2011 and the waiter heats at Rockliffe Hall, Darlington on Thursday, 8 September 2011.
The southern chefs heats will be held at the University of West London, Ealing on Wednesday, 14 September 2011, with the waiter heat at Nestle’s training centre, Rashleigh’s in Maidenhead, on Monday 19 September 2011.
The national finals will be held at Westminster Kingsway College, London on Wednesday, 19 October 2011 with the awards ceremony in the evening.
