We have recently raised several issues with TripAdvisor as a result of members’ concerns. Two in particular are “disappearing and reappearing reviews” which are taken off the site by the reviewer, slightly rewritten and put back as new (and therefore prominent) entries; and problems where a guest uses the hotel wi-fi to submit a review, which TripAdvisor then wrongly suspects was penned by the hotel. We attended last week’s Copenhagen meeting of our EU hotel and restaurant confederation, HOTREC, allowing for detailed discussion with the European Commission officials responsible for VAT (they want to see fewer reduced rates!) and for the new Food Information Regulation.
