Safer Parking Scheme provides peace of mind for tourists

July 27, 2012

The Safer Parking Scheme Park Mark® is awarded to parking facilities that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police and the British Parking Association (BPA). The Safer Parking Scheme is an initiative of the Associations of Chief Police Officers (ACPO/S), aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking areas.

Park Mark® car parks can use signage featuring the distinctive tick logo (on the left), so that drivers know exactly where to go for safe parking.

Certain parking facilities that have received the award have seen a drop in vehicle-related crime of over 80%. For customers, using a Park Mark® Safer Parking area means that the area has been vetted by the Police and has measures in place in order to create a safe environment.

The police determined that 20% of all crime was related to car crime and thus an initiative was backed by the Government to make car parks safer places to park. In addition, it was intended to increase confidence of customers in order to lessen the fear of crime when parking in certain locations.

The Park Mark® Scheme is open to all car park owner / operators. Larger hotels have started to join the Scheme to reassure guests that their vehicles will be safe whilst on their premises. A few smaller hotels have seen the benefits and have also joined recently.

Many tourists hire cars and the security of that vehicle is paramount whilst on holiday. The Safer Parking Scheme is currently entering into a partnership marketing campaign with Europcar and Confused.com to encourage people to choose a Park Mark® awarded car park.

There are currently over 4800 car parks with the Park Award throughout the UK. To find your nearest car park visit www.parkmark.co.uk
