In the week the British Hospitality Association (BHA) and the Restaurant Association (RA) announced their support for the Marine Management Organisations’ (MMO) ‘Looks Fishy? Don’t Risk It’ campaign, John Gargett, Communications Manager at the MMO tells us a little about the campaign…

I am delighted that BHA and RA members are supporting our ‘Looks Fishy? Don’t Risk It’ campaign. The campaign has been designed to combat the purchase of fish through illegitimate sources and promote adherence to the Registration of Buyers and Sellers (RBS) Scheme 2005,

Since the campaign launched in April 2016 we have worked with representatives of the fishing industry to promote buyers and sellers scheme compliance. We have also encouraged anyone who has suspicions of the illegal sale of fish to report this to Crimestoppers.

We recommend that anyone who buys fish directly from a boat looks at our guidance available here.

Ensuring fish is purchased from legitimate sources protects the fishing industry, fish stocks and the future of the marine environment. Any suspicions of illegal activity should be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
