The fact that Cigala is a favourite eating place for many in the publishing and legal professions somehow points a finger to its unique quality. Situated in Bloomsbury one could be forgiven for thinking that Virginia and Leonard Woolf, Clive and Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry, E.M.Forster, Lytton Strachey and John Maynard Keynes would be regulars if they were still around.
So what is it about this restaurant that’s so special? Firstly, everything about it is functional, not at all flashy, discreet. Somebody said that celebrities who frequent Cigala go there not to be seen. They come for the food, authentic Spanish at its tastiest; which isn’t at all surprising since the owner and chef is Jake Hodges, one of the inspirational co-founders of Moro.
