HQ Theatres (HQT) was set up in 2005 as a subsidiary of Qdos Entertainment Ltd - a UK leader in theatre production and talent management. In 2006 HQT bid for and won the operating contract with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council for the Cliffs Pavilion Southend-on-Sea and the Palace Theatre Westcliff. Via the acquisition of Hetherington Seelig Theatres, HQT took over the management contracts for Wycombe Swan (including the Swan Theatre, the Town Hall, and the Oak Room) and the Wyvern Theatre Swindon.
From the outset, the policy which differentiated HQT from its competitors was the combination within its venues of the best in live entertainment and theatre with a range of quality food, drink and hospitality opportunities.
In 2011, HQT took over the management of the Watford Colosseum, following a major refurbishment and the addition of a fine-dining restaurant, the Forum. At the same time, it opened the newly-built G Live in Guildford, becoming the first operator of this state-of-the-art concert hall and conference / hospitality venue. In January 2013, under a newly-formed subsidiary HQ Theatres Trust, HQT took over the management of Crewe Lyceum Theatre.
As a more complete reflection of the range of activities of the business, in April 2013 HQ Theatres became HQ Theatres & Hospitality (HQT&H).
In April 2014, HQ Theatres Trust, on behalf of HQT&H, took over from Swindon District Council the management of Swindon Arts Centre. This will be operated jointly with the Wyvern Theatre under the banner of Swindon Theatres. At the same time, HQ Theatres Trust entered into an extended contract with Wycombe District Council for the management of Wycombe Swan, including the development of a modernised second space under the title Old Town Hall.
