Hotelympia 2016 – A Dozen ‘Must Do’s’

Hotelympia 2016 is just a week away – and excitement is building as the UK’s biggest hospitality event prepares to open its doors.

With so much to see and do under one roof, here the show offers up its dozen ‘must do’s’ – 12 key things that visitors should add to their Hotelympia 2016 itineraries.

Walk-in Immersive Experience:
Built in association with digital pioneers, Soluis, the Walk-in Immersive Experience is a virtual reality dome, offering show visitors an exclusive, up-close-and-personal glimpse at the subtle design elements of three of the capital’s newest bolt-holes, the German Gymnasium in Kings Cross, Victoria’s M Restaurant and the Hilton Bankside. Updated Salon Culinaire:
A new Chef Director, Executive Chef of the Royal Garden Hotel, Steve Munkley, and a host of programme changes have revitalised the world’s premier culinary competition. New elements include The Skills Theatre, which offers chefs at the beginning of their careers the chance to experience the thrill of competition with classes including butchery, fishmongery, pastry, sugarcraft and more.

The Drinks Innovation Theatre:
The place for visitors wanting to know how to profit from craft beer, spirits, cocktails and wine, Hotelympia’s Drinks Innovation Theatre will host stimulating talks and interactive seminars – from policy and politics, right through to pairing, the business of drinks will be laid bare. Expect a range of views from lively guest speakers.

Innovation Awards:
An opportunity for visitors to see, touch and experience the very latest industry developments, Hotelympia’s original Innovation Awards return to crown the finest products of 2016. Each finalist product in the categories of equipment, interiors and technology, will be on display throughout the show. The section also showcases the World Food Innovation Awards 2016.

The Hotelympia ‘Hall of Fame’ Award:
On the first morning of the show, legendary chef, Anton Mosimann OBE, will be inaugurated into Hotelympia’s Hall of Fame. The Swiss master, once the youngest ever Maître Chef des Cuisine of The Dorchester at just 28, is being celebrated during an in-depth interview. He will join an exalted set of previous inductees, including Raymond Blanc, Sir Terence Conran and Albert and Michel Roux.

Hotelympia Restaurant Design Award 2016:
The search to find the UK’s most impressively designed new or refurbished full service restaurant is now down to three stunning finalists – The Bombay Brasserie, German Gymnasium, and Fera at Claridge’s. But only one will reign supreme.

The only venue for panel discussions focused on the burgeoning hospitality technology sector. One of the first sessions at the show on Monday 29th February (11.30am) will feature Terri Scriven, head of hospitality at Google, who will head up a panel discussion considering the growing impact of digital marketing.

The Stage:
Hosting a range of events during the course of the show, the beating heart of Hotelympia will showcase a number of not-to-be-missed events including Tuesday 1st March (1pm) when Diego Masciaga of the three Michelin star Waterside Inn will present his “Service Masterclass”.

On Thursday 3rd March (3pm), the subject up for debate is:  “The rise of the multimedia chef in Britain”. A panel discussion sponsored by The London Restaurant Network, it will feature guest chef/owner, Adam Byatt of Trinity Restaurant, Irena Pogarcic, a food expert and restaurant PR, Sophie Michell, chef at Pont Street Restaurant and James Rusk, restaurateur and chairman of Glasgow Welcomes.

The Staff Canteen Live – Skillery:
The only place to see some of the UK’s top chefs – sharing over 20 Michelin stars – including Tom Kerridge, Clare Smyth, Simon Rogan and Claude Bosi. Each will offer interactive demos, recipe guidance, cooking tips and sampling opportunities.

La Parade des Chefs:
Salon Culinaire’s fine dining team challenge, where aspiring chefs prove their cooking skills in front of judges including Cyrus Todiwala, Alyn Williams, Brian Turner, Russell Bateman and Simon Hulstone. Visitors can enjoy a three-course lunch for £35 cooked by the teams.

Featuring suppliers of resource efficiency solutions for the hospitality sector, it will help operators improve their environmental credentials and boost the bottom line. This time around, Waste-Works unveils its most comprehensive line-up of suppliers and will also stage a number of stimulating speaker sessions.

Careers in Hospitality:
Hotelympia’s dedicated careers fair, Careers in Hospitality will, for the first time, be open for the duration of the show. With the hospitality industry facing a number of challenges including needing to recruit an additional 11,000 chefs by 2022, this is likely to be a busy section as visitors check out the many career options now available.
