Darryl Thomson, Head of Safety at the Group comments, ‘We at Mitchells and Butlers recognise and support the SALSA plus Beer certification for all the small breweries which supply us. Achieving SALSA is a clear indicator to our customers that the business is operating to the highest standards and delivering consistency and quality every time.’
Launched on 30th June 2015, SALSA plus Beer delivers a robust safety and quality audit for small, local and craft brewers and bottlers throughout the UK. Developed in collaboration with Cask Marque, the aim of SALSA plus Beer is two-fold; to raise quality and compliance standards within the sector and to provide strengthened confidence for both retailers and ‘on trade’ buyers. Darryl at Mitchells and Butlers supports this. ‘With a growing UK beer industry, it’s essential that brewers are able to demonstrate quality and consistency throughout the process. The SALSA plus Beer certification offers a robust, sector-specific audit against comprehensive food safety and quality requirements.’
For their part, Cask Marque continue to strive to improve the quality and consistency of all UK beers at the point of delivery through an industry-wide initiative called Grain to Glass, with SALSA plus Beer representing a key element in the supply chain for smaller breweries. Paul Nunny, Cask Marque Director comments, ‘The SALSA plus Beer audit will contribute to ensuring the long-term success, reputation and sustainability of this rapidly growing sector.’
Feedback from the 70 breweries which are already existing members of SALSA and from businesses which have already opted for SALSA plus Beer has been extremely positive. ‘Gaining certification is most definitely a win-win situation for our Company and all our loyal – and new - customers! I would thoroughly recommend SALSA to other local food and drink producers,’ says Mark Tetlow, Quality Assurance Manager at Leicestershire’s Everards Brewery which was approved in August of this year.
