Launched in February 2014, SALSA food labelling (FICR) workshops are proving both valuable and informative for small food and drink producers across the UK. With the deadline of December 2014 fast approaching, businesses have become aware of their need to be prepared well in advance. Five of the ten workshops scheduled have already taken place, with over fifty delegates now trained in the new regulations.
Sally Ball, SALSA Scheme Manager explains. “With the introduction of the new legislation just months away, this expansion in the workshop calendar is there to help our members – and non-members ̶ in every way we can to prepare for these important changes. The fact that these are LOCAL workshops also helps our delegates, saving them time and money which we know is especially critical for small businesses.”
The highly interactive, full-day workshops have been tailored to the specific needs of small producers, answering delegates’ many concerns and queries on the new food labelling to consumer regulations. Melanie Roberts, Technical Manger of Riverford Farm Dairies who attended a workshop in London gave the following feedback, “Excellent workshop, the interactive nature of the day with delegates discussing their own product labels made the day very relevant and interesting.”
The workshops are open to both SALSA members and non-members, and have received endorsement from one of SALSA’s key stakeholders. Jane Duddle, Product Safety Manager at Waitrose commented, “The course was excellent and very well delivered. The interaction within the group allowed delegates to raise questions and get answers – it was also an excellent way of fostering new business relationships.”
