SALSA’s Food Labelling Workshops continue to hit the right note

SALSALogoThe first in a series of Food Labelling workshop aimed at helping small producers to understand and comply with the current Food Information Regulations has been enthusiastically received by participants from across the UK.

Held on 2nd March at SALSA’s Oxfordshire offices, the workshops are focused on providing small and micro food and drink producers with a full understanding the current legislation and practically translating this into legally compliant labels.

SALSA recognises that the whole arena of Food Information Regulations can be daunting for the smaller and specialist UK food and drink producers.   In response, this interactive one-day workshop provides clear, concise guidance - the key to getting it right first time for a small producer with limited technical and financial resources.  Sally Ball, Scheme Manager, comments, "Our food labelling workshops help level the playing field for the small business keen to stay ahead when it comes to assuring buyers and customers that they are complying with the new requirements.  We intend to help our members address any due-diligence concerns and avoid unnecessary extra costs sooner rather than later -   label re-prints are expensive!"

Nutritional information and allergens were naturally popular topics for many participants.   "I was very impressed with the speaker’s knowledge, style and responses to the questions raised," says Michael Wall of Bedfordshire-based Fusion Targeted Nutrition, makers of protein shakes, bars and snacks.  Sara Snelling, Owner of Barnsley-based fresh chocolate company ‘Full of It’, adds, "A great workshop; the delivery style and informal approach allowed for open discussion and ongoing questions which was excellent and extremely valuable to a specialist business like ours."

Food Labelling workshops are the most recently launched SALSA service.  Level 1 and Level 2 SALSA HACCP courses are also popular options, with more and more members electing to have their training onsite, saving them time and travel expenses for often more than one employee.

Sally Ball, Scheme Manager is delighted with the success of both services. "Every service that SALSA offers its members is intended to be both affordable and accessible to smaller producers wherever they are based in the UK."
