Top hotels lead the way for UK’s Global Wellness Day

GWD- Liz HolmesWell-known names from the UK’s hospitality sector are signing up to be part of an international day to encourage health and wellbeing.

It’s hope that for the first time the UK will play a leading role in Global Wellness Day, backed by a host of hotels, spas and restaurants from around the country.

High profile names including Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Accor, Anantara Resorts, Jumeirah Spa Resorts, Q Hotels, Bannatyne’s, Ramside Hall, Virgin Active and Red Door by Elizabeth Arden have already pledged their support for the not-for-profit day which takes place on June 11th 2016 and celebrates wellness and healthy living.

Global Wellness Day was established four years ago by volunteers from across the world’s spa industry who are dedicated to living well and improving the lives of others. It’s hoped that this year the UK will play a leading role supported by a rage of hotels, spas and gyms nationwide.

Spa expert Liz Holmes, highly regarded in the sector for establishing 5* Rockliffe Hall’s spa and also for her work at Virgin Active, is leading Global Wellness Day in the UK. Liz said: “Global Wellness Day will be marked in over 70 countries this year and we really want the UK to be a global ambassador. It’s a fantastic opportunity to reach new customers and markets whether you’re a spa or health club providing wellness advice, a hotel promoting relaxation or a restaurant offering healthy eating options. There are so many ways to get involved.

“Joining in the celebrations is as simple as setting up an event or activity in your establishment on or around June 11th which is free to attend. It can be anything that showcases what you already do well such as a mini-massage class, healthy eating ideas, a yoga session, mindful meditation, juice-making or a nature walk if you have the surroundings.

“We’re now urging more hotels and spas from around the UK to pledge their support so that we can make this a truly UK-wide event supported by our thriving hospitality sector.

Global Wellness Day, which has the slogan ‘One day can change your whole life’, brings together exercise, healthy eating and spiritual teachings and hopes to raise awareness about living well throughout the world.
