Commenting on the announcement of the Out of Home Nutrition Code of Practice, Gabriella Bittante, BHA Policy Manager, said;
"The British Hospitality Association welcomes the Out of Home Nutrition Code of Practice announced today and remains fully committed to policies aimed at reducing obesity. As an industry, the hospitality sector has been dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles though reformulating recipes, offering healthier options and reducing sugar content. The BHA has produced the Nutrition Guide to help facilitate best practice on nutrition and provide hospitality professionals with expert advice on how to develop prepare and promote healthier meals. We will continue to work with our members, government, and Public Health England to meet the 20% sugar reduction target. Supporting the industry in promoting healthy living and driving best practice remains a priority for the BHA.
"We believe that ensuring good nutrition and reducing the level of childhood obesity requires a holistic approach, we would like to see industry efforts to tackle childhood obesity complemented by a stronger emphasis on nutrition and physical exercise in the school curriculum and on significantly improved education about food in children and adults alike."
