Business Rate changes

The BHA has signed a letter with over 40 organisations to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in objecting to the impact of Business Rate changes and proposals to increase the cap on transitional relief in England from 12.5%. The narrowing of the tax base and the difficulty in producing a transitional relief scheme that satisfies both businesses facing large increases and those expecting large decreases shows a structural problem with the current business rates system. This demonstrates the need for a fundamental review of business rates before the next revaluation.

In addition the BHA has submitted its individual response to the consultation on transitional rates issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government. You can read that response here.

BHA members can find further details on the on Business Rates revaluations and the differences between the English, Welsh and Scottish systems here.
