Former Wales rugby international Rupert Moon is the special guest at the fourth Welsh Big Hospitality Conversation at the Imperial Hotel, in Llandudno on Wednesday, 9th March.
The event, organised by British Hospitality Association Cymru, in a UK-wide partnership with Springboard and Department for Work and Pensions, is expected to welcome over 50 local and north Wales businesses and pledge up to 100 new jobs, apprenticeships and work placements for young people aged between 16-24 years old.
David Chapman, Executive Director BHA Cymru said: “We are delighted that Rupert will pack down and engage with the enthusiastic scrum of young people in Llandudno who are looking for pointers and a sound careers start in Wales’ “fun” industry.
“In an uncertain world, the food, drink and accommodation industry is one of the few sectors of work where jobs are always available to the enthusiastic and driven.
“The hospitality and tourism industry in Wales has very many exciting opportunities to start a rewarding, lifelong careers that could see young people jet-setting to international jobs in stylish destination hotels, fastracked to a job in top hotel management, becoming a foodie champion chef or running their own successful food, drink and accommodation business well before their thirtieth birthday,” said David Chapman.
One-to-one and group conversations with key business leaders from local trade group Llandudno Hospitality Association and others in the local visitor economy will take place at the event and panel discussions with apprentices who have already began to work their way up the hospitality career ladder.
“This will be the third event in Wales in a year after Cardiff and Swansea and with 835 Welsh youngsters already found a place with the industry we are confident that we will break the 1000 barrier after Wednesday’s event,” said David Chapman.
Anne Pierce, Chief Executive of Springboard, said: “Springboard is delighted to be part of the Big Hospitality Conversation here in Llandudno. As one of the founder partners we are proud of this initiative and our work with the BHA in bring businesses and young people together.
It is recognised that work experience plays a key part in influencing a person’s career choice and this is why we are taking a lead role in the Big Hospitality Conversation.”
