Chairman of BHA Eastern Committee
With a career spanning 38 years including Forte Hotels, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Posh Boats and an 8 year stint as a submariner with the Royal Navy I’ve seen many changes across our industry. I returned from the private sector 5 years ago to become the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Norwich North which is operated by the largest IHG franchise in Europe Kew Green Hotels.
As well as being the BHA chairman for the East of England, I’m also the chairman of the Norwich Hoteliers Association, a director of the local DMO Visit Norwich and I’ve had a long association with Norwich City College which includes reassessing the degree courses in association with the University of East Anglia, the Hotel Take Over and work experience programmes to name but a few.
The hotel recently won the Springboard Award for “Education Pipeline” for the work we do in collaboration with Norwich City College. This event involves over 150 of the hospitality students running all sections of all three Holiday Inn’s in Norwich including a student General Manager. The takeover runs for a week and we’ve been doing this for over 16 years. The event culminates with a gala dinner for over 250 people mainly from local business and is planned, prepared, cooked and served by the students and includes entertainment. In my spare time I’m a keen horse rider, I also enjoy running, cycling and travelling the world with Celebrity Cruises.
