Mike has had a varied career.  His first venture as a young lad during the war was to run a spitfire library from the garage and he knitted fingerless gloves for bus conductresses.

Mike’s first job was as a journalist on the Sutton Coldfield news, followed by a series of business ventures including a manufacturing agency for motor accessories and a flying school at Elmdon Airport.

Mike brought his first hotel, Moor Hall in 1961, then later the George Hotel in Lichfield, the Gables in Falfield and also Broads Travel Group.

During his varied career Mike was Regional, National and International Chairman of Best Western through his ownership of the Sea Castle Hotel in Florida, and was thus instrumental in developing Best Western in Europe.

Mike has always and continues to be personally involved in promoting the Hospitality industry with work in the past with Birmingham Convention and Visitor Bureau, MARCHE – the Birmingham Hotels Association, Marketing Birmingham and Tourism West Midlands.

Mike has a long history with the BHA, he was a former Regional Chairman and a member of the National executive of BHA, and currently is a representative for the West Midlands on the Regional Committee, and in 2007 was awarded a Life Fellowship by the BHA.
