Bartlett Mitchell puts a shine on 2010
BHA member Wendy Bartlett, managing director of Egham-based boutique caterer bartlett mitchell, scooped the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the annual Shine Awards held at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in London, and attended by the Rt Hon Margaret Hodge, Minister for Culture and Tourism. The awards, now in their sixth year, are designed to recognise outstanding female achievement and role models in the hospitality, travel and tourism industries.
Wendy’s award recognised her success in developing a £20m turnover contract catering business employing over 450 staff spread over 70 locations across London and the South East.
Wendy set up the business in 2000 with business partner Ian Mitchell and as Managing Director, she has played a major part in the development of the company and its team. And women play an important part in this with 54% of senior management positions taken by women.
Commenting on her award, Wendy said, ’I’m accepting this on behalf of everyone at bartlett mitchell who has worked so hard to get the company to where it is today. We’ve achieved a lot in a very competitive sector of the hospitality market and I really believe this is because we have invested so much in developing a really great team. I think the hospitality industry offers potential to people of all ages to build rewarding careers - this field is certainly not just for men, and it’s done a lot for me.’
For her prize, Wendy will be attending a unique course, Walking with Wolves, run by prize sponsor everywoman, an advice, tools and networking organisation for women in business. She will also become a mentor to other women in the industry.
