 Growing demand for local food

Recent research from the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) shows that demand for locally produced food continues to grow despite the recession. 30% of people surveyed had bought local food in the past month, double that in 2006. 57% purchased local food because it was fresher and 54% wanted to support local farmers and producers, up from 29% in 2006. more>>

 SALSA going from strength to strength in 2010

SALSA has been going from strength to strength with a busy start to the year. January saw the launch of Issue 2 of the SALSA Standard, the minor changes to the Standard have been very well received with very few problems. 2009 saw Scheme growth over 2008 increase by 51% and 55% respectively for membership and audits booked. Encouragingly this growth is visible this year with February producing a record month for members joining the Scheme, all keen to source the guidance SALSA offers and gain approval as soon as possible. more>>

 SALSA food visits Food Expo

As one of the owners of the scheme, the NFU has taken on the role of marketing for SALSA and for the first event, took SALSA to Food Expo in March. This was to promote the benefits of the scheme to both trade buyers and suppliers. Food Expo takes place every two years at the NEC and is the UK's largest food and drink exhibition. more>>
