About Young Chef Young Waiter

The Young Chef Young Waiter Competition is now in its 26th year and wishes to encourage entries from those who are passionate about food and its service!

Young Chef Young Waiter has established itself as the industry's favorite youth skills event by offering spectacular prizes and a unique competition structure that pairs the skills of both kitchen and front of house staff in a modern restaurant environment.

But Young Chef Young Waiter is more than a competition judged by some of the industry’s finest and best known chefs and front of house professionals. It’s also an education. Indeed, its aim has always been educational, matching the skills of talented youngsters against each other but, at the same time, enabling them to gain extra knowledge and greater confidence – and so boosting their career prospects. Few who enter do not emerge wiser and more skilled.

Since it was launched, entrants have enjoyed tutorials while finalists have been taken on wine tours to France and Germany and worked in world-class restaurants as part of their prize – as well as receiving cash prizes, courtesy of the Savoy Educational Trust. This year’s 16 national finalists will win an exclusive invitation to visit Champagne Laurent-Perrier in September as an integral part of the competition in the run up to the national final.

So, there are plenty of good reasons for entering – and for managers to encourage their most talented youngsters to compete in this premier event in the industry’s calendar.

Young Chef Young Waiter is a national competition for the hospitality industry's stars of tomorrow. Chefs and Waiters who wish to compete must be aged 25 or under (up until 31 December 2010). All entrants must also be in full time employment within the UK to enter the competition.

And, just a reminder, all reasonable travel and accommodation expenses are paid!
