Breakfast Week is an annual awareness campaign, now in its 16th year, that is run of behalf of UK cereal farmers who grow the foods we all enjoy for breakfast.

The 2014 campaign saw £3.2 million worth of PR coverage, thousands of breakfast events and activities nationwide and #BreakfastWeek mentioned 6,000 times across social channels.

The purpose is to to raise consumer awareness of the benefits of eating breakfast as part of a healthy balanced diet and encourage them to remember where their foods comes from.  The campaign theme is ‘Shake Up Your Wake Up’ – make small changes to your morning routine to make time for breakfast.

Get involved:

Anyone producing or serving breakfast foods can get involved with the campaign and use it as a platform for their own breakfast related activity whilst being part of a national campaign which receives extensive media coverage.  The campaign website www.shakeupyourwakeup.com provides suggestions for ways to get involved.

Best Breakfast Awards

The Best Breakfast Awards are run as part of the Breakfast Week celebrations. The awards celebrate the fantastic and varied breakfast dishes served up and down the country.  We are looking for the best dishes, the ones that stand out on the menu and use fresh and, where possible, local ingredients.  With out-of-home breakfast occasions on the rise, this is a great opportunity to showcase your breakfast offering.

The awards are open to any venue serving breakfast – restaurants, cafes, B&Bs, hotels, food stalls, workplace restaurants and pubs.  Eateries must nominate themselves to be in the running – there are two categories; best hot and best cold breakfast dish (you can only enter one dish per category).

Public voting

The award winners are chosen by public vote, serving as a great reason to really interact with your customers and encourage them to vote for your nominated dishes.  Online public voting is open 1st December 2014 – 18th January 2015.  Free resources are available including posters, postal voting slips and web banners to promote your involvement (available to order when you enter).

Winners will be announced during Breakfast Week (25th – 31st January 2015).

New for 2015, there will also be a ‘judge’s choice’ award for the dish we think is the most innovative or unique breakfast.  TV chef Phil Vickery, who is supporting Breakfast Week, will be helping to choose the winner and will present the award to the chosen venue during Breakfast Week.
