Workshop on Sourcing Sustainable Palm Oil

Date: 11th May 2018

Time: 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Location:  British Retail Consortium, 2 London Bridge, London, SE1 9RA

Efeca invite UK foodservice sector companies and their suppliers to a complementary half-day workshop on how to source sustainable palm oil.

In this workshop, we’ll cover:

  • How palm oil is used in the foodservice market
  • What sustainable palm oil is
  • What the key obstacles to sourcing CSPO are
  • How key foodservice companies are performing
  • How to source CSPO

As part of our palm oil programme of support to the UK foodservice industry, Efeca recently published a briefing note on palm oil in the foodservice sector. It describes the market structure and some of the key market dynamics, before looking in more detail at the Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) policies of many of the key players in the accommodation, contract catering, pubs and bars, travel, leisure and restaurant, and wholesale sectors. This analysis sheds some light on the current state of awareness and action in the industry on sourcing CSPO, and has allowed us to assess where assistance is needed.

We recognize this is a complex sector with supply chains that can sometimes make sourcing sustainable palm oil challenging. In this workshop, we will look at the key issues surrounding the sustainability of palm oil, leading certifications of sustainable palm oil, and the use of palm oil in the food service sector in cleaning products, cooking oils, and food ingredients. We will also cover the foodservice market structure and dynamics that impact sustainable palm oil sourcing, as outlined in our recent briefing note on palm oil in the foodservice sector.

We’ll then work together as a group to identify some of the key obstacles to sourcing sustainable palm oil, and how the sector can work together to overcome these.

Please let us know if you would like to join, and please share with your members, customers and suppliers. This workshop is part of a wider campaign funded by the UK Government’s Partnerships for Forests Programme, and will be co-hosted by the British Retail Consortium, the Business Services Association, UKHospitality, the Sustainable Restaurant Association, and the Food and Drink Federation.
