The Dog & Partridge

The Dog & Partridge dates back to the very early 16th century and in it’s lifetime has been a farmhouse, a coaching inn known as the Green Man in the 17th century and later as the Cliviger Arms.

The Inn has been run by the Barr family for over half a century and several alterations to the building have taken place whilst retaining it’s old world charm. Notably, during alterations to the bar area, the chance discovery was made of the magnificent stone fireplace and landscape work disturbed the cover on an old well, both of which have been carefully restored. The old stone barn next door was rebuilt and joined to the main building providing a function room with views over the local fells; ideal for weddings or parties. The cosy and tastefully decorated dining room is used every day for table d’hote luncheon and à la carte dinner. Bar meals are also available lunchtimes Tuesday to Saturday.

Specialities of the house are delicious crispy roast duckling, local game in season, fresh fish dishes, steaks and mouth watering home-made desserts. The bar provides Tetley’s traditional ales, Black Sheep bitter, a good range of malt whiskies and an extensive wine list. The restaurant is apt to get busy so a reservation is always advised, especially at weekends.
