This 5-red star hotel and spa, located between Newbury and Hungerford in Berkshire, just one hour away from London takes its name and inspiration from owner, Sir Peter Michael’s world class winery in the mountainous landscape of Northern California.

All 49 bedrooms ranging from the original and traditional hunting lodge style through to contemporary and spacious suites have been named after iconic wines from around the world. The top 6 suites are named after our patron’s wines.

This privately owned country house retreat showcases the passions of its owner Sir Peter Michael. The wine list has received multiple awards and features over 2,500 bins, yet is still thought of as a ‘work in progress’. Around 600 wines listed are from California, including a library selection from the Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma Valley, rated by wine aficionados as being amongst the greatest wine estates of the world. The result of this intense research can be seen in our cellars where lay 23,000 bottles of wine.

The stunning space that contains the restaurant has a contemporary design, with a focus on bold soft furnishings and intimate lighting. It houses a collection of art unrivalled in a British restaurant.  Executive Chef Daniel Galmiche produces modern French cuisine which is designed to complement wine and our team’s aim is to create a dining experience that is relaxed but informative and truly memorable.

Add to this, the highly rated Vineyard Spa offers pampering and relaxation in a world of calm, allowing you to lose yourself in the beautiful surroundings. Gaze at the sky from the circular pool, then immerse yourself in the spa bath and let the soft water jets massage you. Afterwards, unwind in the steam room or sauna and you will soon feel any tension ease away. Light refreshments are served by the poolside relaxation area or in the spa garden.

Rooms

As you would expect from a 5-star country hotel, The Vineyard at Stockcross, Newbury, Berkshire, features 49 beautiful individually designed rooms, ranging from luxurious traditional suites with four-poster beds to spacious, contemporary suites with open plan seating area and patio or balcony.

All of the bedrooms and suites are named after wines, the top six suites are named after Peter Michael wines, namely La Carriere, Mon Plaisir, Les Pavots, Point Rouge, Belle Cote and L’apres Midi. The remaining rooms are named after Californian, French, Italian and Spanish wine labels.

All bedrooms are air conditioned, and have mini-bars with refreshments and soft drinks. Each bathroom is personally crafted using Italian marble, some with freestanding baths and separate showers.

Restaurant 

At the heart of the hotel and set in a beautiful contemporary dining room, the restaurant at The Vineyard is the focal point for every guest. From the bespoke linen and chinaware to the original sculpture and art that hang on the walls, every detail has been meticulously put in place. The same approach is adopted for the creation of the food and choice of wine, setting the stage for you to enjoy an unforgettable experience.
