After graduating from Shannon college of Hotel Management in 1981, Patrick joined Forte hotels and worked
his way up through the organisation, becoming Managing Director of the UK in the late 90’s. On the sale of Forte
to IHG Patrick was appointed as CEO of Restaurant Associates with Compass Group UK and Ireland.
In 2004 he joined Whitbread as Managing Director of Marriott in the UK before becoming Managing Director for
Premier Inn in 2005. In 2009 he was appointed Managing Director of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, who
own and operate c.55,000 Premier Inn rooms (c.675 hotels) and c.400 pub restaurants.
In 2009 he was invited to join the Whitbread PLC main board as an Executive Director and attended Harvard
Business School in Boston to complete the Advanced Management Programme.
In 2012 Patrick was awarded an OBE for his services to Hospitality, an honour which he is obviously very proud of.
Patrick sits on the Great Ormond Street corporate charity board and as a corporate partner Premier Inn has
pledged to raise í7.5 million toward a new state of the art building for the hospital.
He also sits on the Business in the Community Talent & Skills Council, and in conjunction with his role as a
Director of the British Hospitality Association he is Chairman of an initiative known as the ‘The Big Hospitality
Conversation’. The aim of which is to help to reduce the number of 16-24 year old NEET’s and provide hope for
the long term unemployed.
