Day 1+1: The Hospitality and Tourism Summit 2014

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” The British Hospitality’s CEO, Ufi Ibrahim quoted Henry Ford on this in her address at the 2014 Hospitality and Tourism Summit, while she stressed the importance of partnership moving forward.

Last year’s summit came after a year of success in the hospitality and tourism industry for the United Kingdom. 2013 was a record year for inbound tourism with 32 million visitors and £21 billion in terms of spending.

Helen Grant, the Minister of Tourism, spoke at The Summit regarding the future of hospitality and tourism and the partnerships needed to accomplish the industry’s goals. Grant announced the formation of the Tourism Industry Council, a partnership between the government and industry working towards improving skills, boosting quantity and quality of jobs available and driving growth.

As each person in the industry shares the common values of generosity and passion to serve others, it is crucial for the industry to come together and form partnerships in order to maximize the value of hospitality and tourism. Ufi Ibrahim described this partnership as a shared lens, which we look through together and anticipate change in order to make a difference in the future – “collective prospective.”
