Crieff Hydro opened its doors on Scotland’s maiden hydropathic establishment in 1868 and is Scotland’s oldest trading registered company. Think clean eating, outdoor gyms and (questionable) hydrotherapy treatments, 19th century style. In fact, for a long time the strongest drink you could get was ginger beer.
Over £40 million has been invested in more recent years and now instead of ice cold baths, the pools are perfectly heated, the 60+ activities ensure that you’re spoiled for choice and you’ll find delicious food and drink at six on-site eating venues. In fact, with 215 bedrooms and 55 self-catering units on a 900 acre estate, Crieff Hydro is reputed to be Scotland’s favourite family resort hotel. But one thing still remains – family. The 1,000+ strong team is really just one big extended family, including their CEO – Stephen Leckie, the great-great-great-grandnephew of the founder, Dr Henry Meikle.
And the family’s getting bigger. Crieff Hydro Limited now own or manage ten hotels which span across Scotland and the north of England. Like true Scots, they’ve got relatives everywhere – from the outdoorsy cousins in Glencoe, to a much loved great aunt in Harrogate.
