Holdsworth House Hotel..This grand Jacobean Manor built in 1633 has been owned and run by the Pearson family since 1963. Holdsworth House stands in stunning, secluded gardens, just three miles north of Halifax in the heart of West Yorkshire’s dramatic landscape. It feels a world apart from the bustle of everyday life, providing a haven of peace and quality in an age when it is too often forgotten that the customer is also a guest. With banqueting and conference facilities for up to 120 guests, Holdsworth is the perfect venue for romantic weddings, meetings, away-days and celebrations of every kind.

In this fine, old house open fires, cosy lounges, fine antiques and tapestries create a sense of calm and comfort whilst the 39 charming bedrooms located in the award winning extension, have all been individually furnished. Dinner is served by candle-light in the exquisite, 17th century, oak panelled restaurant whilst the Long Bar has a simpler brasserie style menu.

The Beauty Rooms allow guests to chance to enjoy a range of relaxing treatments, therapies and beauty pampering.

The present house, built by Abraham Brigg in 1633, retains many period features; splendid mullioned windows, oak panelling, wig cupboards and, above the central gable, the stone Maltese cross of the chivalric Order of St John of Jerusalem. There a hidden delights such as the romantic listed Gazebo, the pretty walled courtyard and the wig cupboards.

This ‘hidden gem’ is just seven miles from the M62, almost equidistant from Leeds and Manchester and ideally located as a base from which to explore the Pennines and the Dales, with Bronte country on the doorstep. In Halifax, Eureka! Museum for Children is the first and foremost hands-on children’s museum in the UK and a little further afield is the National Media Museum and the Hockney Gallery.

Over the years, there have been a variety of celebrities visiting the hotel but the most famous of them all must surely be The Beatles who stayed here at the height of their fame in 1964 on John Lennon’s birthday.


Holdsworth RoomAll rooms are ground or first floor, with single, double or twin accommodation. Each is equipped with direct telephone, flat screen multi channel TV, hairdryer, iron & board and welcome tea/coffee trays. En suite bathrooms are finished with individual toiletries, fluffy towels and bathrobes on request.

Cots are available at a charge of £10 per night, along with z-beds for children 11 years or under at £15 per night and are only available in our Superior rooms.

Guests are welcome to bring their dogs to stay in their rooms. There is a charge of £10 per dog per night. Guests are asked not to allow their dogs into the dining areas of the hotel and not to leave them unattended in their rooms





Holdsworth RestaurantAt Holdsworth House our policy is to buy local produce from Yorkshire suppliers whenever we can. We also prepare all meals fresh. Sounds simple but you’d be surprised how many establishments don’t. We want our food to speak for itself; great flavours, fresh ingredients all made with passion.

Head chef Michael Ward has created some fantastic menus and has a reputation to uphold, we’ve held 2 AA dining rosettes for over 10 years. But Michael is used to having his food put to the test, he’s been Pub Chef of the Year and Game Chef of the Year, so continually strives to meet exceptional standards.

The Restaurant at Holdsworth comprises three beautifully furnished rooms overlooking the garden. The seasonal menu is creative and stylish making the best use of fresh local produce. For the past thirteen years we have been awarded two Rosettes in the AA Best Restaurants in Britain Guide as well as featuring in the Good Food and Michelin Guides.

At Holdsworth you can enjoy delicious food and fine wines served all day from breakfast through to dinner…morning coffee and cake or a traditional afternoon tea.

Jenny Richardson ITEC, VTCT, CND has a wealth of experience in her chosen field, a dedicated therapist who enjoys all aspects of beauty therapy. She is happy to help, advise or make recommendations to clients of all ages on their individual needs and eager to ensure a calming and pleasant experience in whichever treatment they choose.




Holdsworth MeetingsIf you or your delegates are suffering form ‘corporate hotel monotony’ then Holdsworth House will make a welcome change for your next meeting. With over 400 years of history to bask in, stunning year-round gardens for views and feature-filled rooms, start your delegates’ day in a positive mood.

You could be meeting in the room where John Lennon and Paul McCartney slept, or eating the same menu that Jamie Oliver enjoyed or even sitting in the chair that cushioned Jayne Mansfield. Whichever reason you choose, just watch the relief on your delegates faces; it’s truly delightful.

Whether you need indoor or outdoor space, we’ve got it.  There are four rooms taking from 2 to 120 delegates or use the lawns and courtyards for team bonding. For something more adventurous we have a number of fields and paddocks where you could let imaginations literally run wild.  It’s secluded and quiet so you’ve got space to breathe and think. When you’ve done talking shop, how do you like the sound of fantastic, award-winning Yorkshire food?  Our ingredients are locally sourced and prepared fresh every time and there’s a great range including scrummy vegetarian options.  We’re known locally for our restaurant and we’re proud of it.  At the end of the day slope off to bed (39 rooms) and sleep soundly in the peace and quiet.
