On 9th and 10th August this year, Donnington Valley Hotel & Spa in Berkshire is hosting ‘The Big Bacchanalian Feast’ weekend where guests will be treated to mouthwatering food and an abundance of wine throughout the two days, carefully selected by the sommelier team.
As winner of Condé Nast Johansen’s Taittinger Wine List of the Year 2013, shortlisted for the Louis Roederer Wine List of the Year 2013, and with 400 wines on their wine list, Donnington Valley is the perfect place to enjoy a range of wines and discover new varieties.
Bacchannalia literally translates as “drunken revelry” and is the name of the festival held in honour of the Roman god of fertility and wine. Originally notorious secret parties, ‘the Bacchanalia’, were held in the olive grove and were attended by women only. They became more popular and were known as ‘Bacchanalian Feasts when men were invited.
‘The Big Bacchanalian Feast’ weekend starts on Friday night with a bottle of sparkling wine in your room on arrival followed by a three course dinner in The WinePress restaurant. On Saturday, enjoy a five course set menu with matching wines including a delicious dessert wine and port with your cheese course. Plus, recreate your own Bacchanalian feast at home with a 20% discount on any wines purchased.
