The National Waiters Day initiative to celebrate all front of house & service staff and to encourage people into in the hospitality industry takes place on 21 May.
Inspired by Fred Sirieix, General Manager at Galvin at Windows and co-ordinated by The Springboard Charity, National Waiters Day will be a day to celebrate the excellence, dedication, hard work and discipline of all 2.5 million employees working in the Hospitality industry in the UK to inspire people about the range of dynamic and vibrant careers the industry has to offer.
Springboard, now in its 25th year, has the expert knowledge on how to support young, unemployed and disadvantaged people into a career within hospitality and Through National Waiters Day, aims to change the perceptions of careers in front of house from being seen as an unskilled job working long hours to a job that offers good skills, leads to a rewarding and sustainable career with great progression routes and amazing rewards.
Anne Pierce, CEO of Springboard said: “We are delighted to be part of this fantastic National Waiters Day initiative to promote front of house and the hospitality industry as a great career choice. The proceeds raised from the initiative will go towards enabling Springboard to continue to develop and run an exciting programme for schools to encourage young people to consider a career in front of house”.
Up and down the country, a wide range of hospitality businesses will host a range of events to celebrate and educate people to join in, from a ‘skills session’, to organising their very own Waiters Race where participants will show off their combined skills of elegance, competition, and professionalism.

This year’s London National Waiters Day Race will take place on the 21st May 2015, 4pm, Hyde Park.
Last year over 400 front of house and service staff from Hotels, Restaurants and Food Service management companies across the UK gathered in Hyde Park for one of the biggest races in hospitality.
Winners Alex Radmore from Limewood Hotel and Branwen Summers from Joe’s South Kitchen were crowned fastest waiter and waitress of the 2014 Waiters Race.

In addition to the race, visitors to London Hyde Park can take part in a range of have-a-go activities that demonstrate ‘front of house’ skills showcased by key sponsors and partners.
A Students Race will take place at 3.30pm (before the main Waiters Race).
