Hotel health & safety seminar / CPD with HSL’s Dr Steve Thorpe (technical lead – slips, trips & falls)

Slips are the biggest cause of accident in the hospitality sector, costing businesses millions of pounds annually. But these accidents are often avoidable.

BHA is pleased to invite you to a health & safety seminar focussing on slips with Dr Steve Thorpe of HSL. Steve is the UK’s lead authority on pedestrian safety, chairing the UK Slip Resistance Group and taking part in many international groups on this subject.

Topics include:

  • What are the particular environments in hotels where slip risk is highest
  • How to measure slip-resistance
  • How to specify the correct type of floor surface
  • What should be done about safety in bath tubs and shower trays
  • The importance of cleaning and maintenance to safety surfaces

Phil Vaughan, technical account manager from Aviva, will also speak on claims defensibility.

Also in attendance will be senior EHO for Westminster Council, Mark Morsman, who will be available to field questions from the audience.

The seminar is aimed at the senior health & safety professional within hospitality groups and, we hope, will give you valuable and actionable insight on how to form your slips prevention strategy.

Two seminars will run, both on 18th September at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall. The morning session will commence at 8am and last until approximately 10am. The lunchtime session will commence at 12.30pm until approximately 2.30pm. Dress code is jacket and tie.

Each session is capped at 30 attendees (more than one attendee per company is, however, fine), so we encourage you to confirm attendance ASAP by emailing
